Dear Mike,
How are you? Thank you for your letter dated 10th June. I’m sorry for not writing back sooner, but I’ve had a lot to do.
You know, it’s been a very challenging year for me. I spent most of my time preparing for exams and did well in practically all subjects. After passing the exams, I was enrolled in the university. The whole course of study lasts four years. My major is mathematics. I’m really good at it and work on Maths whenever I get the chance. I’m taking many courses in this subject and enjoy participating in Maths competitions organized by our department and the university. I believe that mathematics is "the language of science" and plays a crucial role in many other fields.
We’re lucky to have a brilliant lecturer in mathematics this term. He has a talent for making complex topics easy to understand. You leave his lectures feeling like mathematics is the most fascinating subject in the world. Next term, I’ll be doing research in the field of computer engineering, and I’m really looking forward to it.
How do you feel about Maths? Please write back — I’m especially interested in hearing about your life at university.
Looking forward to your reply.
Sam
