About English Task
English Task is a library of free English exercises and classroom materials. It has been online since 2017 and now holds over 6,700 pages of practice for CEFR levels A1 to C1.
Most English practice online comes in one of two shapes: a PDF you have to print before anyone can use it, or a quiz that wants an account before it will tell you whether your answer was right. English Task sits between the two. Every exercise runs in the browser, marks itself the moment you answer, and needs no sign-up — and where the same material works on paper, the printable version is there to download.
There are two people we build for. Learners working through a level on their own, or preparing for IELTS, who need exercises that tell them straight away whether they got it right. Teachers who need something ready for Monday morning — a worksheet, a listening task, a jeopardy board for the last ten minutes of a lesson.

How the exercises work
Open any task and it runs straight away — no account, no download, no plugin. Listening exercises let you replay the recording as many times as you need, and carry the full audioscript on a second tab, so you can check what you actually heard. Answers are marked the moment you submit them, and longer tasks are split into parts that move on by themselves once you get one right.
Everything is built to work on a phone as well as on a classroom projector.
How the material is put together
Exercises are written to a CEFR level first and a topic second. An A1 listening task is a few short sentences; the same skill at A2 becomes a conversation between two people; by B1 it is a longer recording where the answer depends on something said a sentence earlier. Within each level, material is grouped into themes — school, daily life, food, travel, holidays — so a teacher can pull a whole lesson from one place rather than assembling it task by task.
Listening material is transcribed, so the script is always available next to the recording. Where a task works on paper as well as on screen, a printable version goes into Downloads alongside it.
What's free and what isn't
Every exercise, worksheet and video linked from the menu is free, with no account required and no limit on how many you use. The Shop sells a small number of premium bundles — activity books and video packs — and that is the only paid part of the site. Free material is not a trial version of it.
Who makes English Task
English Task is an independent project run by ESL teachers. It has been online since 2017, and new material is added most weeks.
If something is wrong — a broken recording, a wrong answer key, a task that will not load — please tell us. Reports like that get fixed.
