Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information english-task.com (“English Task”, “we”) collects, why, and what you can do about it. English Task is run by Oleh Deminov, Ukraine, who is responsible for your data. Contact: admin@english-task.com.

1. What we collect

Your account. Email address, username and password (stored only as a secure hash), the date and IP address of registration. If you sign in with Google, we get your name, email address and Google account ID from Google. Profile fields are optional.

Visits. Our own visit counter records the page address, the site you came from, device type, browser, operating system, your country (worked out from your IP address, which is not stored), time on the page, how far you scrolled and how fast the page loaded. Visitors are counted with a code that changes every day, so we cannot follow you from one day to the next. These records are deleted after 180 days. If a page shows a technical error, we record the error message and your browser type to fix it.

Downloads. When you download a file, we record the file, the time, your IP address, browser details, the country and city worked out from the IP address and the page you came from. We use this to count downloads and to stop automated mass downloading.

Comments and error reports. Your name, email address if you give it, the message, your IP address and browser type. Comments are checked before they appear.

Games you make. The content of games and activities you create with our teacher tools. Without an account, a random code in a cookie lets you edit your own games later.

Premium waiting list. If you ask us to tell you when Premium opens, your email address and the plan you chose. We use it only for that message.

Purchases. Payments are handled by Creem (creem.io, Armitage Labs OÜ, Estonia), our reseller and merchant of record. Creem collects your payment details under its own privacy notice. We receive your name, email address, country, what you bought and the status of your subscription – never your full card number.

2. Why we use it

  • To run your account, Premium and your purchases – this is needed to provide the service you asked for.
  • To keep the site working and safe, count visits and downloads, fix errors and decide what to improve – our legitimate interest in running the site.
  • To show ads and measure visits with Google’s tools – with your consent where the law requires it.
  • To answer your messages and to send emails about your account or subscription. We do not send newsletters without asking you first.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Other services we use

  • Google AdSense shows ads on the site. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Visitors from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland see a consent message from Google where they can choose whether their data is used for personalised ads. More: how Google uses data in ads. You can turn off personalised ads in Google Ad Settings. Premium subscribers see no ads.
  • Google Analytics measures how the site is used.
  • Google Sign-In, if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • YouTube plays the videos inside our exercises; YouTube may set its own cookies when a video loads.
  • Google Fonts, ShareThis and Facebook share buttons on some pages load files from those companies, which then see your IP address.
  • Creem processes payments and subscriptions.
  • Our hosting provider stores the site and its database.

Some of these companies are outside your country, including in the United States; they protect the data with the safeguards the law requires, such as standard contractual clauses.

4. Cookies

Our own cookies:

  • session and security cookies (including _csrf) – needed for the site to work, deleted when you close the browser;
  • _identity – keeps you signed in if you choose so;
  • et_view – remembers how you like topic pages to look, for one year;
  • guest_token – lets you edit games you made without an account, for one year.

Your browser also keeps some game settings in its local storage; they stay on your device. Google, YouTube, ShareThis and Facebook set their own cookies as described above. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings; the site still works, but you may be signed out and lose these settings.

5. How long we keep it

Account data is kept while your account exists. Visit records are deleted after 180 days and error records after 90 days. Other records are kept only as long as they are needed for the purpose above or as the law requires – for example, purchase records for tax purposes.

6. Your rights

You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it or your account, limit how we use it, or give it to you in a portable form. You can object to our use based on legitimate interest and withdraw consent at any time. Write to admin@english-task.com; we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.

7. Children

Many of our exercises are made for young learners and can be used without an account, so no personal information is needed. Accounts, comments and purchases are for adults and learners aged 16 or over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (under 16 in the EEA and the UK). If you think a child has given us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.

8. Security

The site works only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), passwords are stored as hashes, and access to the data is limited. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell you if a breach affects you.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; the date below shows the current version. Important changes will be announced on the site or by email.
