Each set takes one topic – from everyday subjects such as jeans, pets, the weather or a haircut to more abstract ones like trust, patience and time management – and splits it into several short parts. A part shows one question next to a picture: answer it aloud first, then open the suggested answer and compare. Useful words and phrases are glossed in brackets inside the answers, so new vocabulary comes with the sentence it is used in.
The questions follow the Part 1 and Part 3 style of the interview – personal questions about your life, and follow-ups that ask for opinions and reasons. Part 2 cue cards are not included. The Speaking test is the same in IELTS Academic and General Training, so the material fits either version. Writing, Reading and Listening are not covered here.
This section is IELTS Speaking practice. It holds 34 topic sets – 197 examiner-style questions in all – and every question comes with a suggested answer you can reveal once you have spoken.
How a topic set works
A set covers one topic and is split into parts, anywhere from two to twelve of them. Each part puts a single question on the screen next to a picture. Answer it out loud first, then press Suggested answer and compare what you said with the model: its length, the linking, whether you gave a reason and an example. Useful words and phrases are glossed in brackets inside the answer itself, so vocabulary arrives with the sentence it belongs to rather than as a separate list.
Which part of the interview this covers
The questions follow the style of Part 1 – everyday questions about your work or studies, your home, your hometown, food, the weather, pets – and the Part 3 style of follow-ups that ask for opinions, comparisons and reasons. Part 2 cue cards are not included.
Topics
Accommodation, work and study, hometown, travel and festivals, transportation, sports and exercise, weather, city and countryside, reading, social networks, street markets, pets and wild animals, dance, haircuts, jeans, perfume, make-up, tea or coffee, islands, forests, rubbish and recycling, mathematics, smiling, trust, patience, concentration, tiredness, time management, borrowing and lending, walking, playing, visiting relatives, amusement parks and voice.
Academic or General Training
Both. The Speaking test is identical in the two versions of the exam – the same three parts, the same timing, the same band descriptors – so the same practice works for either.
