New Technologies
CD2 track 18. 1. Okay, so let me explain again. I bought this oven here last weekend. It was discounted and the lady encouraged me to take it, saying that it was the best model available and the best value for money.
I was a bit unsure because I didn’t know the brand, but I got it in the end. As soon as I got home and used the device, it turned out to be faulty. Unfortunately, I lost the receipt so I can’t prove it comes from here, but I promise it does. I really need one, so could I exchange this model? 2.
I believe technology helps us a lot in life, but personally I’m beginning to have a problem with it. The more gadgets I have, the less I can cope without them, so I’m worried that one day I’ll end up surrounded by technology like in a science fiction book where people live like robots. I depend too much on things like my smartphone or sat-nav and lots of other appliances I’ve bought. 3. A lot of people are very pessimistic about the future.
They believe technology will completely take over our lives, and we will turn into robots with chips in our heads. Well, I don’t. I think it’s just a lot of speculation based on some science fiction books or movies. I’m sure people are sensible enough not to let such a futuristic vision come true. 4.
A lot of young people I know rely too much on technology. If they forget their mobile phone, it’s as if it was the end of the world. It really annoys me that no one teaches teenagers to live without technology and to use it when they really need it rather than to play games. Like yesterday when I was in a shop, I was waiting in a queue, and before me there was a group of five teenagers, all friends, playing games on their phones instead of talking to each other.
