The Future Jeopardy

Be going to
Will
Will or be going to
Will or present continuous

The Future Jeopardy is a quiz board for the ways English talks about what has not happened yet. Twenty questions are split into four categories, and the price of a square says how hard the question behind it is: 100 is a warm-up, 500 makes the class think.

  • Be going to – listen to a question and choose the reply that answers it
  • Will – decide what the sentence is doing: predicting, promising or deciding on the spot
  • Will or be going to – a plan made earlier or a decision made this second?
  • Will or present continuous – an arrangement in the diary or something you think will happen

The board is about choosing, not about forms: all four categories put two correct-looking English sentences side by side and ask which one the situation calls for. Play it in teams on the screen at the front of the class, or let students work through it on their own. Squares that have been taken stay crossed out; the Reset button starts the game again.

Leave it if you want an answer.
