Present Simple or Continuous Jeopardy – Level 2

Use of the tenses
Time expressions
State verbs
Simple or continuous
Adverbs of frequency

Present Simple or Continuous Jeopardy Level 2 takes the same two tenses further. Thirty-five questions are split into five categories, and the price of a square says how hard the question behind it is: 100 is a warm-up, 700 makes the class think.

  • Use of the tenses – a timetable, a temporary situation, a law of nature: why is this tense here?
  • Time expressions – the tense is given; choose the expression that can stand next to it
  • State verbs – have, look, think, smell and be, which change meaning in the continuous
  • Simple or continuous – put the verb into the gap in the right form
  • Adverbs of frequency – where in the sentence do always, often and never go?

Level 1 is about the plain contrast between a habit and what is happening at the moment; this board is about everything the contrast does not cover. It suits a class that already gets the basic choice right and keeps stumbling on “I am thinking” and “he is being polite”. Squares that have been taken stay crossed out; the Reset button starts the game again.
