Listening Past Simple

Past Simple Jeopardy is a quiz board for revising the past simple. Twenty-five questions are split into five categories, and the price of a square says how hard the question behind it is: 100 is a warm-up, 500 makes the class think.

  • Irregular verbs – recall the past form of go, swim, take, begin and fall
  • Positive – put the verb into the gap in an affirmative sentence
  • Negative – decide which of the two negative sentences is written correctly
  • Error correction – find the wrong word in the sentence and spell the right one
  • Listening – listen to a question and choose the answer that fits it

Play it in teams on the board at the front of the class, or let students work through it on their own. Squares that have been taken stay crossed out, so it is easy to see what is left; the Reset button starts the game again.

Leave it if you want an answer.
