Mixed Tenses Jeopardy
Mixed Tenses Jeopardy puts four tenses on one board – the present simple, the present continuous, the past simple and the future simple. Twenty-five questions are split into five categories, and the price of a square says how hard the question behind it is: 100 is a warm-up, 500 makes the class think.
- Time expressions – yesterday, now, always, in two days: which tense does the expression call for?
- Positive – look at the picture and put the verb into the gap
- Negative – one sentence, four ways to say no: only one keeps the tense
- Questions – the same choice, this time between Is, Does, Did and Will
- Listening – hear a sentence and name the tense it is in
Every question here is really the same question – which tense does this sentence belong to? – asked five different ways, so the board works as revision after all four tenses have been met separately. Play it in teams on the screen at the front of the class, or let students work through it on their own. Squares that have been taken stay crossed out; the Reset button starts the game again.
