have / has been + -ing

    • An activity that started in the past and is still going on, often with for, since, all day, How long …?: She has been playing tennis since she was six.
    • A recent activity whose result you can see now: His clothes are dirty. He has been playing in the mud.

    They haven't been waiting long.
How long have you been waiting?

    Present Perfect Simple instead

    • A finished result, how many, how much: I've read three books. Nick has returned your book.
    • After a superlative or the first time: the most boring film I've ever seen; the first time he has driven a car
    • With state verbs – know, like, hear, have (own): Have you heard from Brian?
    • With yet: They haven't finished yet.

The activity or the result? I've been painting the kitchen – that's why my hands are dirty (maybe not finished). I've painted the kitchen – it's done. And check the form: she has been, not she have been; been, not being.
