I Spy | Halloween Game

An I Spy game with Halloween pictures: spot the object, name it in English, say where it is. Practises seasonal vocabulary together with prepositions of place, for young learners.

I spy turns a picture into a listening task. The teacher names an object hidden somewhere in a busy Halloween scene, and children hunt for it – which means they have to hold the English word in their head while their eyes do the searching.

The second half of the game is where the language grows. Once an object is found, ask where it is: next to the pumpkin, under the table, behind the door, on top of the shelf. Prepositions of place are difficult to teach from a list and obvious from a picture.

It scales easily. Beginners answer with the single word, and stronger students give a full sentence – the spider is on the wall next to the window – so a mixed class plays the same round at different levels.
