Spring game - What is it? - Spring Quiz

Spring pictures revealed slowly while students guess what they show. Practises the vocabulary of the season and the phrase "I think it is", which is where guessing games do their real work.

A picture appears a piece at a time and the class calls out what they think it is. The format looks trivial and it is the most reliable vocabulary activity there is, because guessing forces every student to commit to a word out loud – and a word risked in front of the class is a word remembered.

Spring supplies concrete, visible things to name: flower, bud, butterfly, nest, rain, umbrella, puddle, seed. Once the group can manage it, ask for the reason as well – I think it is a nest because it is round and brown – and one game covers the vocabulary, the phrase I think and a because clause.
