Spring game - Spring Riddles

Riddles about spring: the clues describe a flower, a bird or the weather, and the class works out the answer. Listening practice that rewards paying attention to detail.

A riddle is a listening task with a reason to listen. The clues describe a flower, a bird or the weather one detail at a time, and the answer only becomes obvious once several details are held together – which is exactly the skill a comprehension exercise is meant to build.

Let students write their own after two or three examples. Three sentences in a fixed order – what it looks like, where you find it, what it does – gives weaker students a frame to copy and stronger ones room to be clever, and the class ends up teaching each other the vocabulary.
