Speaking: I Like - I Don't Like. Do You Like...?

Likes, dislikes and the questions that go with them, at the level where a learner first starts holding a conversation. Short prompts with pauses to answer aloud, for A1 classes and for practice at home.

Likes and dislikes are where a beginner first holds a real conversation, because the answers are true and the structures are tiny: I like, I do not like, I love, I hate, Do you like…? Everything after that is vocabulary.

Two details are worth fixing early. English puts the -ing form after these verbs – I like swimming – and the polite middle ground is it is all right or not really rather than a flat no. With those, a class can run a genuine survey around the room and report back what they found.
