Look out of the window: the leaves are turning yellow, orange and red. A short story and rhyme about autumn leaves – raking, jumping in piles, hiding – in easy English for A1–A2 and young learners.
Look out of the window: the leaves are turning yellow, orange and red. It’s fall. A short, easy story about what happens in autumn – the leaves fall off the trees and cover the ground, you rake them into piles, jump into a pile or hide in one, and it’s cool enough to put on a sweater. Then the rhyme: “Pretty leaves are all around…” – on the trees, on the ground, on the sidewalk, on the pond, on the grass, on the steps, along the fence, in the sandbox.
Words and phrases from the video: leaves, turn yellow, orange and red, fall off the trees, cover the ground, rake the leaves, a pile of leaves, jump, hide, take a walk, put on a sweater, roll, catch, throw, kick, pick up, sidewalk, pond, grass, steps, fence, sandbox. The season is fall in American English and autumn in British English – the video uses both.
For A1–A2 and young learners. Watch and listen; watch again and say the rhyme out loud; then go outside and say where you can see leaves today. The Autumn Fall worksheet below has the story on paper and the “Pretty Leaves” song as an MP3.
