The Story of Saint Patrick - ESL Listening B1-B2

Who Saint Patrick actually was, told in under a minute and a half at B1-B2: the man behind the parades, and how a fifth-century missionary ended up with a national holiday.

Most Saint Patrick's Day material stops at leprechauns and green beer. This one goes back to the person, and it is pitched higher than the rest of the holiday set - B1-B2 rather than A1 - so the language is closer to what an adult class can use.

It is deliberately short. Eighty seconds is enough for the outline of a life and not enough to lose anyone, which makes it a good opening to a longer lesson: play it, ask what students already believed about the holiday, and let the difference between the man and the celebration carry the discussion.
