Guess the Picture: Summer Edition - Zoomed In Challenge

Summer objects shown so close that the answer takes a moment. Designed for sentence practice as much as for vocabulary: children name the thing and then say it in a full sentence.

The game is simple - a photograph zoomed in until the object is unrecognisable, then pulled back to reveal it - but the pause in between is where the English happens. Learners guess out loud, and because they are guessing rather than answering, they reach for the words they half know instead of the ones they are sure of.

It was built with speech and language work in mind as well as ESL, which shows in the pacing: there is room after each reveal to say a full sentence, not just a noun. Use it as a warm-up, as a summer vocabulary revision, or as the five minutes at the end of a lesson when nobody can concentrate any more.
