Chinese New Year Dobble Vocabulary Game

Two circles of Chinese New Year symbols share exactly one picture. Find it before the timer, then say the word - the card game turned into vocabulary drill.

Dobble works because the eye finds the match before the brain explains it, and the shout comes out at speed. Turning it into a language task adds one rule: you have to name what you found. Two circles of Chinese New Year symbols appear, exactly one image is on both, and the class races to it.

The pressure is what makes it useful. Recall under time is a different skill from recognition, and a word that only surfaces after five seconds of thinking is not yet usable. Three and a half minutes, and it works with the whole class shouting or with pairs keeping score.
